The Prophet(PBUH) said, “When a human being is laid in his grave and his companions return and he even hears their foot steps, two angels come to him and make him sit and ask him: ‘What did you use to say about this man, Muhammad?’ He will say: ‘I testify that he is Allah’s slave and His Apostle.’ Then it will be said to him, ‘Look at your place in the Hell-Fire. Allah has given you a place in Paradise instead of it.’ ” The Prophet added, “The dead person will see both his places. But a non-believer or a hypocrite will say to the angels, ‘I do not know, but I used to say what the people used to say! It will be said to him, ‘Neither did you know nor did you take the guidance (by reciting the Quran).’ Then he will be hit with an iron hammer between his two ears, and he will cry and that cry will be heard by whatever approaches him except human beings and jinns.

PRESENTING: An easy-to-use form to see if a show was an objectively good episode!
Why?
I was bored and thinking in the car how you would know if something you watched was a good episode. I see this as a way to avoid bias (e.g, the show isn’t really within your interesting, the show isn’t all that great most of the time, or something that would lead you towards an opinion subjectively) and rate the episode based on it’s quality. What?
What this form contains is the parts of a story, the plot, characters, details, problem and solutions, and conclusions. Basically, what you would use if you were to review a book or other form of writing. But a show has more than just writing, it has a performance, what is also added is the ability of the actors (do they enunciate, can understand what they’re doing, etc.).What you do with this form is go through steps to pick apart the writing and acting to see if it creates an overall good episode.
How?
Well first, you would need to fill out the form [document file provided at end of post], creating a new row with each primary character within the episode (if there were more an extra to the plot, I would not include them in the form). Then you will need to go through my step-by-step process of whether the writing was good or bad.Steps:
Character to Plot:
1. Does the character have reasons for his actions? If yes, go to number 2. If no BAD WRITING.
2. Do the reasons of the character’s actions relate to the plot OR do the reasons justify the actions? If yes, go to number 3. If no, BAD WRITING.
a. More than one character? Proceed through number 1 and 2 again.
3. Does the climax solve the problem of the plot? If yes, go to number 4. If no, BAD WRITING.
a. More than one problem? Proceed through number 3 again.
4. Does the conclusion wrap up the plot? If yes, GOOD WRITING. If no, BAD WRITING.
a. More than one plot? Proceed through number 4 again.
Acting:
1. Can you understand what the actor is saying? If yes, proceed to number 2. If no, BAD ACTING.
2. Can you understand the emotion the actor is presenting? If yes, GOOD WRITING. If no, BAD ACTING.
a. More than one actor? Proceed through number 1 and 2 again.
Scoring:
- A character gets 2 points (for reason and relevancy)
- The climax gets 1 point.
- The conclusion gets 1 point.
- An actor gets gets 2 points (for understanding and presentation).
For example: If an episode only has one character (therefore one actor), the most points for that episode would be 6 points. If it had two character/actors, 10 points. Basically, with each additional character/actor, add 4 points to the overall score.
When going through the steps, if the requirement achieves a BAD WRITING/ACTING, do not proceed to the next step (it loses all points if it does not go through any steps). Something achieves a point if it is able to proceed to a next step or reaches GOOD WRITING/ACTING.
Overall Grade:
Once you have finished scoring the episode, add the points achieved and the points possible. Divide the points acheived to the points possible and then multiply the quotient by 100 to get a percent. The grade is just like a school grade.
- 100-90%: A (Excellent)
- 89-80%: B (Good)
- 79-70%: C (Average)
- 69% and lower: F (Bad)
And that’s it! You’re now capable of knowing if something was well done or not. And I know this isn’t perfect, but that is because this is only the first version of this. I hope to make it better over time.
Here’s the form for you to document (go to File - Download a Copy).
I hope you have fun with this, and please grade shows that you love and get back to me to see they turn out to be a good episode or not.
Also, ask me any questions if something needs clarifying or if you’re curious about anything.

I’ve always been so drawn to countries near the Mediterranean Sea, especially Greece. It’s so beautiful and has a romantic feel to it. I dream of one day traveling there.
